Safari Cam in the Masai Mara, Kenya

If you’ve been searching for an exciting webcam, and what that’s just a little different to the norm, you’ve found it. Be prepared because you’re going to be glued watching this one for what could turn out to be hours. And it has to be said, viewing the wildlife that comes to the watering hole at this safari lodge in the Masai Mara beats viewing zoo cams hands down.

The Masai Mara is a wildlife reserve which covers over one-thousand five-hundred square kilometres of savannah in the west of Kenya. While it wasn’t the first wildlife to be established on the African continent, it’s a widespread terrain where the animals have been able to wander free in their natural habitat, as they should do, since 1961. The reserve is named for the original human inhabitants of the area, the Maasai. Sadly, they’re an indigenous nomadic tribal people who are as endangered as some of the creatures they share the lands with.

The Maasai are renowned for their jumping skills which is a probably a good skill to have when there’s a chance of being chased by a hungry lion. With webcams like this one in existence you don’t need to be a high jumper or even go on safari to get a glimpse of some of the wildlife. Exercise a bit of patience and you’ll be fully rewarded by what wanders into view. But if you’re lacking in patience, here’s a tip. Wind the live feed back and you’ll be able to spot what’s been wandering through in the past few hours. Believe it, that’s something that’s well worth doing.
