Tucked inside a wooden nest box somewhere in England, this camera offers a close-up look at the busy, slightly chaotic world of a blue tit family. The frame is filled with a carefully built nest of moss, feathers and soft fibres, where tiny chicks huddle together, shifting and stretching as they wait for the next feed. It’s intimate viewing, right down to the smallest movements and sounds of life inside the box.

Blue tits are a familiar sight across the UK, but it’s rare to see quite this much of their day-to-day routine. From the early stages of nest building through to egg laying and hatching, everything plays out here in real time. As the chicks grow, the pace picks up, with frequent visits from the parents bringing food and keeping things in order, more or less.

Set up by Caidyn, the camera quietly captures it all without getting in the way, even continuing through the night thanks to infrared.
