A surprising fact about Canberra Airport is that although it’s the airport for Australia’s capital city, it’s not the busiest in the country.

While only just over three million passengers pass through the terminal doors of Canberra Airport, a staggering forty million plus people use Sydney Airport every year. Forty thousand aircraft still touchdown on Canberra Airport’s two runways annually though. Most are domestic flights from cities like Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.

If an incoming plane circles over Canberra before landing the lucky passengers in the window seats get to see the city’s scenic side. Canberra is surrounded by numerous national parks, has Lake Burley Griffin and the Molonglo River running through its center and is definitely prettier than the Australian outback.
