Islamic Association of Collin County (Plano Mosque) Webcam
If you’re used to seeing the inside of a church, for whatever religious reason, but have been curious about what goes on inside a mosque when it’s prayer time, this webcam may well satisfy your curiosity. This live feed is being streamed from the Plano Mosque by the Islamic Association of Collin County, Texas. And just because this is coming from Texas, forget seeing anyone stomping around in cowboy boots. The mosque is a place of peace and reverence where shoes, boots and differences are left at the door.
The mosque serves not just as a place of worship but as a community centre for the Muslim population of Plano. Plano is a city that has been spreading its urban reach across the second largest state in the US since the late 19th century. Since then, Plano has grown to encompass around one-hundred and ninety square kilometres, a mere smidgeon of the state’s seven-thousand square kilometres, and is home to over a quarter of a million. Which may sound like a lot of people but by US city population standards, it’s not.
Not surprisingly, considering its size, Texas is the US’s second most populated state. It loses out on being number one in the rankings though to the sunshine state of California. Texas is renowned for its wide-open landscapes, its bygone cowboy culture and its BBQ and Tex-Mex cuisine. Maybe it’s time to re-adjust the impression folks have of Texas because its coastline is equally, if not more so, as impressive as California. It just takes longer to get there when you live somewhere inland like Plano.
If you need spiritual rejuvenation and don’t feel like going to a mosque, head for the Gulf of Mexico. It’s only a five hour drive away from Plano as long as there’s no traffic hold-ups on the way. Let’s all pray there’s not because no matter who you are or what religion you follow, we all need to have some peace on the nearest beach on occasion.
