Mauna Loa Volcano Webcams

Mauna Loa is the largest active volcano on Earth and started erupting on November 27th 2022 after almost four decades of laying mostly dormant. The last time it erupted significantly was between March and April of 1984. It is part of the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park which is thankfully an uninhabited area and so no homes are at risk. It’s believed to be between 700,000 and a million years old. The landmass surrounding the volcano is slowly expanding through the expulsion of lava over several thousand years.

Mauna Loa rises to 13,677 feet (4,169 metres) above sea level, but beneath that another 5 kilometres to the sea floor, and then even further (8 kilometres) where the sea floor has buckled under its weight. It really is enormous!
