Dolomites Webcams Around Selva di Cadore

If peeking at planet Earth’s protuberances is a favourite pastime for you, you may well find yourself visiting this collection of webcams on a regular basis. If you’re staring at the screen while sipping a glass or two of mulled wine because you’d rather be skiing than sitting at home, these feeds will, in the winter months when they’re covered with snow, undoubtedly alleviate the piste deficit in your life. If mountains blanketed in white are not your thing, come back in the spring or summer when the snow has melted and the slopes are green. In the meantime, and if you have the desire to, you can practise your Italian accent by yodelling the cam titles while watching.

Selva di Cadore, in the northeast region of Italy, is closer to the country’s borders with Austria and Slovenia than it is to Rome, the capital city. Surrounded by the rugged limestone peaks of the Dolomites, this remote location is home to less than a thousand permanent residents. That’s a population that increases a hundred fold when the wintertime ski crowd or summertime hikers flock in to make the most of the dramatic landscapes.

For the rock fanatics – here’s a few placatory statistics on the Dolomites to keep you happy. The Dolomites, in total, cover an area of almost sixteen square kilometres of Italian terrain. The highest peak in the range is the Marmolada which pokes out to a height of over two-thousand metres. That name, albeit similar, bears no reference to the jam made of Seville oranges you spread on toast in the morning, but refers instead to the peak’s limestone marbling.
