Brooks Memorial Fountain Webcam in Marshall

Marshall, in the US state of Michigan, is a place where there’s no expense spared when it comes to illuminating the city’s monuments. If you joined this live feed of the Brooks Memorial Fountain during daylight hours, pop back after dark and you’ll be able to see that for yourself, but don’t get too excited. Don’t expect nonstop, geyser-type gushes of water cascading down everywhere either. The water supply is, what can only be called, slightly on the conservative side.

Fountain connoisseurs viewing this feed are likely sighing with pleasure over the eye-pleasing, European-style design of Marshall city’s centrepiece. The original masterpiece of architecture, with its classic Greek Doric temple-style columns, can be found on the other side of the Atlantic in a garden in Versailles, France. The one thing that’s not replicated on the fountain, but takes centre stage in the Temple of Love is the statue of a winged cupid. But that’s understandable as the French queen, Marie Antoinette, was probably able to finance a much bigger construction budget.

While Marie Antoinette kept her garden temple to herself until it was made public property, that was not so with the Brooks Fountain. The fountain was gifted to the city by a generous mayor, Harold C. Brooks, who believed in beautifying the city surroundings. Not only did he donate the fountain in honour of his father, but also gave the city land for an airport and parks as well as funding schools and hospitals. It’s a shame the French queen wasn’t around to learn something about generosity from his example. If she had she may well have managed to keep her head.
