1000 Islands Webcam Near Rockport

Join this live feed streamed by Peter from Hucks Marine and Resort in Rockport, Ontario and you may well be pleasantly surprised. No, the cam isn’t focused on a half empty bottle of Thousand Island dressing in his fridge. It’s focused on Tar Island, one of the many islands that form the Thousand Island Archipelago. And let’s face it, that’s a view that’s a lot more eye-pleasing than sauce bottles in the interior of someone’s refrigerator.

The Thousand Island Archipelago peppers around eighty kilometres of the St Lawrence River which, if you’re in a boat, makes navigating in a straight line practically impossible. Tar Island, one of the eighteen-hundred plus that form the archipelago, is just a stone’s throw from the Canadian mainland. If you’re in Rockport, as Peter is, you don’t even need binoculars to get a close up look at it. Measuring only three kilometres in length and around three-hundred and fifty metres wide, it’s not exactly a huge landmass, but one with a certain amount of charm as it’s been inhabited since before history was written down with pen and paper.

While it’s thought that this part Canadian, part United States archipelago may have given its name to the tasty pink-hued sauce we know as Thousand Island dressing, that’s not a certified fact. It’s hard to prove who was the first person to put a dollop of ketchup in a bowl of mayonnaise and mix it together. Whoever it was, we should thank them for it as it’s been a culinary staple for well over a century. May it long remain Thousand Island dressing as that sounds much more appetising than plain old pink or even, thanks to McDonald’s, boring burger sauce.
