Lenin Square Webcam in Mirny

While this webcam is focused on Mirny’s Lenin Square, the square or the buildings around it are not what this Russian city is known for.

Mirny is more known for an enormous hole outside of the city, in the Siberian terrains of eastern Russia, than it is for its architectural significance. With a width of one thousand two hundred metres and a depth of over half a kilometre, the Mir Mine is one of the biggest holes dug by man anywhere in the world.

The hole is set to keep getting bigger too as diamond mining operations started way back in the 1950s continue. As long as they keep finding diamonds, of both industrial and gem quality, they’ll keep digging.
