The Klis Fortress was built sometime around the 3rd century on top of a hill in the village of Klis and has been occupied by numerous dynasties as well as the Knights Templars. In the past the locals headed there to escape from invading forces. These days the only invaders are tourists who’ve been addicted to the series Game of Thrones. They’re the ones who make the steep climb to snap photos for their social media accounts of the impressive vistas of Split and the Adriatic Sea that can be seen from the battlements – and to boast they’ve been on an authentic GOT film set.
