Jizo Hot Springs Cam in Kusatsu
There really isn’t anything more culturally Japanese than sharing a footbath in public with people you’ve never met before. If visiting an ashiyu is something that’s been missing from your daily life, despair no more. Now, via this live feed streaming from Kusatsu, you too can join in the footbathing no matter where in the world you are. To make the experience even more realistic, it’s a good idea to prepare a bowl of warm water to put your feet in before starting to view.
The Jizo Hot Springs is a long-established, traditional bathing spot in Kusatsu, a large town in the Gunma Prefecture of Honshu Island. The town has been renowned for centuries for its therapeutic spring waters heated by the underground volcanic action of Mount Kustasu-Shirane. While only the external foot spas can be viewed on this cam, those wooden buildings you’ll see as the cam pans house several onsen where you can immerse, not just your feet, but your entire body in mineral-heavy warm water.
If you join this live feed when it’s focused on a murky-looking pond covered in green algae, don’t panic, it’s not a fish pond that’s been left to stagnate. The water that flows from Kasatsu-Shirane is loaded with sulphur so it can have a strange greenish tint. That’s what makes it so beneficial. Take a soak here and you could find any aches and pains you have disappearing as if by magic. What better way could there be of ending a day sightseeing in Kasatsu than stripping off your shoes and socks and submerging them in one of these footbaths? The answer to that is probably none.
