Port of Newcastle Webcam
There’s no shortage of heavyweight maritime traffic to view on this live feed streamed by the Port Authorities of Newcastle Harbour in New South Wales. There’s an almost constant toing and froing of cargo ships and coal carriers loaded with everything from grain to fertilisers and black gold cruising slowly in and out.
This massive port installation at the head of the Hunter River is not only one of the biggest in the country, it’s the biggest and busiest coal port in the world. The port’s twenty berths receive in the region of two-thousand two-hundred ships a year. Historically, this slice of the country’s Tasman Sea coastline and the Hunter River estuary were the location of several shipwrecks. Thankfully, maritime skills have improved over the decades and these days it’s plain sailing on this stretch of the southeast coast of Australia.
