Outlaw Square Webcam in Deadwood

If you want to immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the Old Wild West then this South Dakota city wouldn’t be a bad place to visit. Deadwood is, without a doubt, more authentic than any western theme park ever built which is not surprising considering its historic connections to the Gold Rush era, legendary, sharpshooting gunslingers, card sharks and ladies of the night. It’s a distinct and very colourful past the city embraces in its entirety, well, apart from one thing.

Deadwood was the name chosen by the founders of the original shanty town back in the late 19th century. And yes, in case you’re wondering, they came up with the name after discovering a stack of dead and dried out trees. Not overly imaginative it has to be said, but considering the environment at the time, they could have come up with something a lot worse. Although there’s no longer any dead wood laying around, the city’s trees and bushes, as you can see on this live feed, are as green as green can be, but the name has stuck.

Watch long enough and you might start to think the feed is being streamed from the 19th century. It’s not. Deadwood’s past is brought to life on regular occasions by a group of actors. Keep your eyes peeled and you could spot infamous characters like Wild Bill Hickok, Calamity Jane and Potato Creek Johnny, to name just three, wandering through Outlaw Square. If you want to know what they’re doing, you’ll just have to keep viewing to find out.
