Brest may appear to be an un-predisposing place with little that draws the attention, but when the warring worlds want peace, it’s a city that comes into its own. From medieval to modern times it’s where peace treaties have been arranged and signed – though not without cost.

Brest’s harrowing statues and monuments are a testimony to the courage of its people over the decades and a must-see for any war historian.
