Newgale Beach View from Southwood Cottage

Forget views of the Welsh hills and valleys as this webcam is focused on a different geological form and it’s one which Wales is not particularly renowned for. But thanks to the owners of Southwood Cottage, who stream this feed, you can get a tempting glimpse of a sandy stretch of coastline that may well have you contemplating packing your bags and going there for a weekend away from the proverbial humdrum. And who can blame you?

Newgale Beach lines part of the shore of the scenic county of Pembrookeshire in southwest Wales. It’s the three and a quarter kilometre long attraction that draws visitors to the village of Newgale. That’s a village where there’s not a lot of anything else to write about on the back of a postcard other than the beach or how good the sandwiches are in the local cafes. If you’re a surfer, you might squeak out an extra short paragraph about the big waves at Newgale. It’s those crashing, erosional phenomena of nature which created the beach in the first place. And they’re still rolling.

There’s usually a reason why places get named what they do. With Newgale facing out onto St George’s Channel, which is part of the Irish Sea, you can probably work out the origins of this Welsh village’s name for yourself. If you’re just going to sit on the beach and watch the surfers do their thing, take a windbreak. If you’re planning on going camping when you’re heading there to give it your adventurous spirit all with a few sessions of kitesurfing or landboarding, pack some extra tent pegs or your tent could end up being blown over to the Emerald Isle. Better still, spoil yourself and stay in Southwood Cottage, no extra tent pegs required.
