Carmax Park Baseball Stadium Construction Cam in Richmond

If the construction goes as planned, the Richmond Flying Squirrels baseball team will soon have a new pitch to play on and new stadium seating for their fans to sit on. Hopefully it won’t be too long before Nutzy and Nutasha, the team mascots, are running around driving the crowds into a wild frenzy there.

Unless you’re an avid fan of Minor League baseball, the almost a hundred and twenty million dollars the CarMax Park stadium is costing to build may seem like a bit of a nutty investment. It’s not. The stadium sponsored by CarMax, a secondhand car sales company, is being built in the Diamond District not even a stone’s throw from the Flying Squirrels old one. It’s a district of Richmond, Virginia, that’s under renovation and seeking a new lease of life. With CarMax Park it’ll probably get it. The ten-thousand seat stadium won’t only host baseball games, but major crowd-drawing concerts and events too.

Let’s hope the environment of a new stadium, when it’s completed in 2026, will set the Flying Squirrels off on a winning streak. So far, league-wise, the team hasn’t managed to hit the ball out of the park on that score for the past ten years, but there’s hope yet. If it doesn’t, and their fan base doesn’t increase ten-fold, then the empty parking spaces on game days will probably make pretty good used car lots.
