The Big J was launched in 1942 from the shipyards on the opposite side of the Delaware River, in the neighbouring state of Pennsylvania, after being constructed for an undisclosed amount. The two-hundred and seventy metre long ship sailed as part of the US Naval fleet for over twenty years and was involved in active service in various trouble spots around the globe.
