Occupying a protected, but prime position, in a bay on Mexico’s south-west coast or the Costa Grande, Zihuatanejo has all the right attributes to rival even Acapulco. Superb beaches lapped by the Pacific Ocean, lined with palm trees and sheltered by the peaks of the Sierra del Madre Sur, it is idyllic – apart from during the rainy season. If you’re thinking of getting your suitcase out and heading there for a vacation, skip going from June through to September unless you’re planning on packing your wellington boots and an umbrella.
