Hawick High Street Webcam

You’ll find this live feed of Hawick High Street entertaining if you’re addicted to viewing traffic jams or enjoy the sight of delivery vans blocking the road so vehicles can’t get by. It’s fascinating, unless you’re one of the unfortunate stuck in the jam or one of the ones trying to negotiate your way around the back of a truck. If you are one of the latter, you shouldn’t be watching this feed while driving, so put your phone down and concentrate until you’re well away from the Hawick High Street mayhem and parked up somewhere less chaotic.

Hawick, as a town, has been around in one form or another for several centuries, but its major development occurred during the Victorian era. That’s a fact that has blessed the town with some interesting architecture, some of which you can admire on this feed if you look closely. That’s a fact that’s also left the town with a narrow high street which might have been ideal for horses and carts, but isn’t particularly suited to modern day traffic.

For the curious, and there’s bound to be one or two of you out there somewhere – the statue that stoically overlooks the havoc of Hawick High Street is a statue interestingly named, The Horse. The bronze was created to commemorate the 400th anniversary of a historic battle between the Scots and the English. Another hundred years or more have passed since the statue was erected. But Scots being Scots, any excuse for a dram or two will do, they’re still celebrating that five hundred year old victory in the town today. After all, a win is a win no matter how long ago it was.
