Elbe Ship Spotting and View of the Grauerort Fortress

Tell someone you’ve been ship spotting on the Elbe and you’ll need to be precise with your pronunciation as those two words can be quite a tongue twister. If there are no boats sailing by when you join the live feed, try the static ship spotting cam instead. If you still don’t spot a ship, take a virtual trip around the Grauerort Fortress to keep yourself entertained until one sails into view.

The Grauerort Fortress was built in the late 19th century in an hexagonal shape which was unusual for the era. While the fort’s original purpose was to protect the entrance to the Port of Hamburg, it’s now a museum and event venue. The most exciting thing to happen here is the annual Christmas market so if it’s all quiet on the western front, come back in December when the stalls are in place and the mulled wine is flowing. Sup a cup or two of that and then try saying ship spotting. The result could be quite interesting.
