Santa Rosa Island Webcams

Check out the West cam on this mini collection of live feeds and it looks like the only thing that’s keeping Santa Rosa Island from falling off the face of the Earth is gravity. Thankfully this beach-blessed location in Florida isn’t going to slide into space and start floating around the universe or disappear into the nearest black hole. The curvature is caused by nothing more exciting than a weird camera angle.

Whether or not Santa Rosa Island will remain part of the Florida landscape forever is questionable though. The sandy land mass is a barrier island separated from the US mainland by the Santa Rosa Sound that faces out onto the Gulf of Mexico ( Gulf of America – whichever). It’s a zone renowned for hurricanes, cyclones and tempestuous tropical storms. That’s a combination of weather conditions that can cause serious erosion, a gradual change of location or even complete disappearance.

While it may seem highly unlikely that the Atlantic Ocean will gobble up Santa Rosa Island and spit it out on the Gulf Shores of the neighbouring state of Alabama, stranger things have happened. Well, maybe not so strange as barrier islands are shrinking or vanishing, not just around the US coastline, but all over the world. The best thing to do is make the most of the views of those beautiful beaches because tomorrow they just might not be there.
