Northwest Creek Marina Webcam in New Bern

Relocate to New Bern and the first thing you’ll probably feel inclined to do is get a boat and moor it in the Northwest Creek Marina alongside everyone else’s. Whether you actually need to don your captain’s hat and unhook said boat from its mooring to head off down the Neuse or Trent Rivers to cement your place in this North Carolina community is debateable. Most of the crafts here don’t seem to move very far on weekdays. Pop back over the weekend and you may well find the moorings devoid of craft.

New Bern is a city with a three-hundred year history. Because of its location on the Pamlico Sound, a freshwater lagoon separated from the Atlantic Ocean by several barrier islands, its maritime connections go way back. Long ago, in the late 19th century, boats set sail from New Bern to participate in battles of the American Civil War. These days life is more peaceful so sailing out from New Bern now means a lazy day relaxing on the water while casting a hook in the hopes of catching a free lunch.

Get the grill ready because angling is good in the Neuse River. This waterway is a mix of salt and freshwater so, depending which part of the river you’re on, you could catch species like sunfish, bass, catfish and perch to name just a few. If you get a heavy tug on the line and your reel starts spinning out of control you might have hooked a bull shark. In which case, stand well back from the side of your boat while you cut the line. A leisurely weekend fishing on the River Neuse is not worth losing a leg for.
