Chapel of the Holy Cross Webcam in Sedona

There are several biblical figures who wandered into the nearest desert to seek divine guidance. Worshippers heading to the Chapel of the Holy Cross are pretty much required to emulate that experience every time they want to attend a service whether they make the trip by car or on foot. And, considering the location of this church, they’ll need more than a sip of holy water at their destination to help keep them hydrated.

The Chapel of the Holy Cross is an architecturally unique structure built into, or better said on top of, the craggy buttes of the Red Rock State Park, in Arizona. As visually striking as the manmade church may be, it still doesn’t quite compare with the natural beauty, carved by time and the elements, that is the outstanding landmark known as Cathedral Rock. But then, Mother Nature had quite a few more millennia to complete her work than the builders of the chapel did. Construction of the chapel was completed in the mid-1950s for a cost of around three quarters of million dollars. That was no small sum back in the day, but is one that’s left a lasting, and very elegant, impression on its surroundings.

The chapel also leaves a lasting impression on many of its visitors, some of who claim to have experienced miracles after worshipping there. You can read about those miraculous happenings on the chapel’s official website. It’s not an overly strenuous hike up to the chapel if you’re considering making a mini-pilgrimage and doing it on foot. Don’t forget though that this is Arizona desert land and hot, hot, hot, so as short as the trek is, go prepared with plenty of water. If you don’t, you may get dizzy from dehydration and believe you’ve been sucked into one of the Sedona spiritual vortexes these terrains are reputed to be scattered with.
