If you’re one of those hardy, adventurous types planning on hiking the Rob Roy Way for your next challenge, you’ll find this collection of webcams interesting. Start out in Drymen – yes, that is a strange name for somewhere in less than sunny Scotland – and after traipsing a hundred and twenty-plus kilometres, you’d find yourself in Pitlochry. Flick through the feeds and you’ll be pleased to discover not only are there hotels where you can get a bed for the night while you recover, there’s also a pub where you can sip a hard-earned pint on the terrace – weather permitting.

Take a look around while sipping that pint and you could be forgiven for thinking you’d tramped across the highlands and lowlands and somehow time warped back to Victorian times. You won’t have, but the surplus of well-preserved era buildings will give you that impression. It won’t last long though as the folks of Pitlochry no longer traverse Atholl Road in horses and carts so the passing traffic will soon dispel any notion you’ve flitted back to the 19th century.

And, as you’ll notice, a constant flow of traffic there is because Pitlochry is a popular destination for coach tours and independent travellers. And with good reason. Apart from the town’s architecture, its salmon ladder is a big draw as it’s something you don’t see every day. But if the sight of leaping fish doesn’t pique your interest, there’s always the whiskey distilleries which, considering human nature, is probably why Pitlochry is so popular in the first place.
