Chicago Skyline Views from the Skydeck

There’s no debating Chicago is one of the US’s most renowned cities. It’s a mass urbanisation which has, over the years since it was founded in the late 18th century, developed to cover over six-hundred square kilometres of the state of Illinois where it borders the shores of Lake Michigan.

Back in the early 20th century, Chicago became a city synonymous with gangsters. Things change as the years pass though and nowadays Chicago is a city better known for deep-dish pizza than it is bootlegging criminals like Al Capone and anti-prohibition organised crime. The view you can see of the Chicago skyline on this live feed is streaming from the Willis Tower, which is one of the city’s most iconic buildings even though it wasn’t constructed until the 1970’s.

The fact that it wasn’t built until the 70’s may not make it a truly historic piece of architecture just yet, but it is outstanding in its own right. While the Willis Tower may no longer rank in the top twenty tallest buildings in the world, there’s always somewhere that can go one better, it is still almost five and fifty metres high and so the tallest building in Chicago. That’s a height that, with its gleaming black facade, means it dominates the Loop district of Chicago and pretty much the rest of the city. This webcam is located on the skydeck of the tower which means you can’t admire the building, but you can take a peek at the view from the 103rd floor.
