Faro Blanco Marina Webcam in Marathon

If you speak Spanish, or even understand a little, then you’ll soon come to the conclusion Faro Blanco describes this Florida marina’s waterside landmark quite succinctly. If you’re not muy savvy about the lingo then here’s a quick heads up. Faro means lighthouse and blanco means white. It really doesn’t get more basic than that. Although, as strange as it may seem to anyone with an iota of observational skills, there’s no mention of the lighthouse’s distinctive red stripes. It could be that those franjas rojas are not a permanent fixture, but on that score, you’ll need to keep popping back to find out if they get painted a different hue on occasion.

The Faro Blanco Marina occupies an idyllic spot in Marathon, a city in the Florida Keys that spreads over several islands. While having a boat may seem like a major advantage for getting around an island environment, it’s not strictly necessary. Marathon and the marina itself are both accessible by road and not just any old road either. Drive to the marina and you’ll be traversing part of the Overseas Highway called the Seven Mile Bridge, one of the most scenic routes in the state. It’s ocean views all the way and ones you don’t need a yacht to get uninterrupted views of.

While the lighthouse has been in place since the 1950s and hasn’t changed much over the decades, not so the marina. Since the 70s the marina has undergone various developments to become what it is today, a luxury resort with almost a hundred slips for boats up to a hundred and forty metres in length plus a deluxe hotel for folks who prefer to sleep on dry land. What the next decade will bring as far as changes go, who knows. One thing’s for sure though and that’s the Faro Blanco will still be there serving, not just as a navigational aid for boaters but as a photogenic, and seemingly indestructible landmark of the Florida Keys.
