Imagine you’ve just been hiking across the Yorkshire Dales and are making your way back to your accommodation, but stop for a well deserved couple of pints and a ploughmans in a local pub. A friend calls and asks you where you are staying. You tell them – in a cottage on the banks of the River Ribble overlooking the Settle to Carlilse railway at Helwith Bridge near Horton in Ribblesdale. If you can manage that tongue twisting sentence after a pint or two, you’re either a linguistic genius or are supping alcohol-free ale.

Joking aside, thanks to David and Craig for showing us this beautiful part of the Dales and the River Ribble which is where they have their riverside holiday cottage. It looks like the ideal getaway from urban insanity. With the Scaleber Force Waterfall, the Victoria Caves and the Warrendale Knots nearby, it’s time to consider dusting off your hiking boots and heading there to explore.
