Courthouse Square Webcam in Prescott

With the history it has, it’s not surprising that Courthouse Square is one of Prescott’s main features. This city in central Arizona, back in the days of the Old Wild West, had more than its fair share of bad guys, as well as a few good ones, roaming its dusty streets. Law and order, as well as gold mining and gunslingers, played an important role in Prescott’s past and it’s something that’s been well remembered right up to the present day.

Prescott’s current courthouse, a box-shaped building which falls under the architectural genre known as Neoclassical Revival, and the well-ordered square in front of it don’t date back to the days of the Wild West. This one was built in the early 20th century to replace the previous one which was no longer of a size big enough to deal with doling out justice on the scale required by the ever increasing population. It seems that, on that score at least, some things haven’t changed since the infamous Doc Holliday took up residence there.

And grow Prescott has since its founding in the mid-19th century. Originally just a few streets of timber buildings, which were pretty much no more than kindling waiting to be ignited by the state’s desert climate, the urbanisation has spread far and wide. Prescott now covers almost one-hundred and twenty square kilometres and is home to over forty-five thousand people. If it keeps expanding at the rate it’s going, they may well need to consider building another new courthouse sometime soon.
