The Federal Republic of Germany has a massive 82 million inhabitants and is the most populous country in the European Union. The capital and largest city is Berlin which was divided after World War II into East Berlin, the capital of the communist-ruled East Germany, and West Berlin. It was separated by the Berlin wall from 1961-1989.
