WOBYC, while not a pronounceable acronym unless you want to call it wobic, are the initials of the Waveney and Oulton Broad Yacht Club. Waveney and Oulton are spots on one of the most popular networks of waterways in England for boating fanatics, The Broads. It’s a place where those massive superyachts owned by millionaires and billionaires can’t navigate so boating in the Broads is what can only be called of a more down-to-earth nature.

Forget spotting Sailing Yacht A or megayacht Eclipse heading out for a sail from the marina of the WOBYC. It’s not going to happen. What you will see is a boat-load, excuse the pun, of enthusiasts rigging their mainsails and readying their spinnakers while hoping the wind will blow in their favour. Sometimes it does, but the WOBYC is in Suffolk so more often than not, it doesn’t.
