Whale Harbor Marina Webcam, Islamorada

When you first join this live feed being streamed from the Whale Harbour Marina, you may well think you’ve accidentally dropped onto a live feed being streamed from a construction site. You’re not. You won’t be viewing a mess of higgledy-piggledy, messily put together scaffolding that will give you a nervous breakdown if you have a fear of heights, but something else completely. As the cam pans round, you’ll see that something else is part of a boat and one that’s used for deep-sea sport fishing.

Whether or not those spindly structures assist the expectant fisherman in hooking their dreamed of marlin is questionable, but the view from on top probably helps pass the time while they’re waiting for the big fish to bite. Do they have to wait long to feel that weighty tug on the line? Probably not as Islamorada is renowned for being the sport fishing capital of the world.

Islamorada is a widespread urbanization that covers parts of five islands in the Florida Keys. There’s plenty of attractions such as stretches of sandy beaches backed by luxury resorts to entice visitors to this location, but it’s the marine life that’s the biggest magnet. Deep-sea anglers can’t resist the lure of Islamorada. It’s somewhere where they have possibilities of catching a record breaking swordfish, sailfish or blue marlin or whatever else lurks in the depths of the Atlantic Ocean. Sometimes they have to make do with a somewhat smaller sized mahi-mahi if the big guys aren’t biting, but that’s not too much of a loss as they’re a fish that’s pretty tasty when grilled. If the marlin and sailfish hooked aren’t up to record breaking size – practice tag and release and next year they just might be.
