When you’re navigating down the Tennessee River looking for a quiet spot to anchor up, you really should check out the Florence Harbor Marina. The folks of Florence in Alabama, as you can see via this live feed, don’t seem to have taken too much to the nautical life so far. While the sheltered marina has over a hundred wet slips, not many of them are occupied so there’s quite a few spots left for visiting sailors to moor their boats.

Is it worth disembarking your cruiser in Florence? The answer to that question has to be yes. Florence was named after its more famous counterpart city in Italy, but while it may not have the same ancient architectural features to boast about, it’s still got plenty going for it. A quick stroll from the marina is the city’s historic downtown area and a few more minutes of stretching your land legs will take you into the Muscle Shoals area which is famous for its music production studio. A place where all the top talent go to lay down their tracks so you never know who you might bump into walking down the street.

If all of that sounds just a tad too exciting for a quiet day of river boating, you can always moor up and sit on board your vessel while perusing the metallic majesty of the Highway 72 bridge that dominates the horizon. O’Neal Bridge is a one-hundred and twenty-eight metre long truss bridge built in the late 1930s to a design that is only seen in the US state of Alabama. In all honesty, the steel skeleton looks more impressive at sunrise when it is, in fact, photo-worthy so if you dock in Florence Harbor Marina overnight, make sure to get up early.
