Ameland is one of the fourteen West Frisian Islands which are a short distance off the north coast of the Netherlands. On this cam you can see the ferry where the regular service between Holwerd on the mainland and Ameland docks. 

The ferry isn’t the only way to get to this dune-covered island renowned for its abundant birdlife. When there’s a low tide, you can slip into a pair of wellington boots and mudflat-hike across. Yes, it’s a squelchy walk to say the least and one that can quickly turn into a paddle if you don’t know your tide tables.
