At first glance, Urk in the Netherlands has the appearance of being a coastal fishing port, and at one time it was. Once an island, after a land reclamation program Urk now, rather than a seafront location, occupies part of the eastern shore of Lake Ijssel.

Urk is proud of its fishing history and even to the present day, fishing remains the mainstay of the town’s economy. Take a look around Urk’s marinas with these live feeds and you’ll see the boats heading out to the North Sea as well as across the waters of the lake to fish for the local delicacy of eels.
