The Kingdom of Norway occupies the western portion of the Scandinavian peninsula in northern Europe. It has an extensive coastline broken by many scenic fjords with steep snow-capped mountains and glaciers running down to the glassy sea. Its main economy is dependant upon shipping and its large oil reserves beneath the North Sea along with fishing, timber and hydropower.
It has rejected EU membership (twice) and ranks as the wealthiest country in the world, thanks to its large capital reserves and sovereign wealth fund.
