Kilpiaapa Wetland Live

The wetlands of Kilpiaapa are a remote haven in northern Finland for migratory birdlife. It’s so remote, there’s not even an electricity supply there.

When the sun doesn’t shine enough to power the solar panel and it runs out of charge then a methanol fuel cell kicks in as back up. If that fails, then you’ll be viewing darkness and not the polar nights kind either.

Check in when it’s light enough to see and you’ll spot flocks of whooper swans, cranes stalking the shallows, red-throated loons diving and even an otter or two searching for fish close to the shore. Keep the sound on and if you’re fortunate, you’ll hear the hoot of a Boreal owl calling out for a mate in the distance.
