Plaza de Bolivar Webcam in Tunja

Take a quick glance at the buildings surrounding the Plaza de Bolivar in Tunja and you could be forgiven for thinking you’re viewing somewhere in the Canary Islands rather than Colombia. The Colonial architecture is where the similarities between the two places ends though.

The plaza is named after Simon Jose Antonio de la Santisima Trinidad Bolivar y Palacios, a military leader who helped Colombia gain independence from the Spanish Empire in the late 1800s. Thankfully when the authorities decided to name the plaza after the historic gent they didn’t use his full name. Imagine trying to ask for directions to the Plaza Simón José Antonio de la Santísima Trinidad Bolívar y Palacios. You’d probably run out of breath and pass out before you managed to get halfway through saying it.
