At a quick glance this webcam appears to be focused on a state-of-the-art sports stadium – that is until a plane drifts into view and spoils the tranquil illusion.

While from a distance Freiburg Airport may look thoroughly modern, it’s not. It is, in fact, one of the oldest operating aerodromes in Germany and has been in use for around a hundred years. You won’t spot any 747s coming in to land on the aerodrome’s single one-thousand four-hundred metre long asphalt runway as it’s not authorised for that type of craft. What you will spot winging their way in are smaller craft, helicopters, gliders and even the odd hot air balloon. They’re just as entertaining to watch – especially when it’s windy.
