Dortmund City and Lake Views
If there’s one thing that’s immediately noticeable about Dortmund it’s that the city’s architects favoured square buildings from the early 1950s onwards.
Dortmund in Germany was almost totally destroyed during WW2 bombing raids so most structures in the inner city are of modern construction. The Phoenix See is the city’s newest development. The aptly named area has risen from the ruins of an old steel plant to become a centre for quality living and recreation. The twenty-four acre man-made lake is the focus feature and has been completed with a marina and a lengthy shoreline promenade lined with shops, cafes and restaurants. There’s no doubt that the Phoenix See is a lot more attractive than an old blast furnace. May the reconstructions continue. They’re definitely going in the right direction.
