In the far northwest corner of the US is Washington State, named after the first President, George Washington, and nicknamed Rainy city. Nearly 60% of its residents live in and around Seattle, the largest city. The state is varied with mountain ranges, deep rain forests in the west and the eastern semi-deserts given over to intensive agriculture.
The highest peak is Mount Rainier at 14,411 feet (4395m) and has more glacial ice than any other peak in the US outside Alaska. This state is well covered with great Washington Webcams from Mount St Helen’s volcano to the 605 feet (184m) high Seattle Needle.
It is home to Starbucks Coffee, Boeing and Microsoft and singers Bing Crosby, Judy Collins and Jimi Hendrix were all born here.
