Kosovo is a country that covers a mere eleven-thousand square kilometres of the Balkans region of southeastern Europe. Landlocked by four countries and surrounded by immense mountain ranges, it’s practically cut off from the rest of the world. That hasn’t prevented it from having a turbulent history in which inter-racial conflicts have continued until the late 1990s and into the 2000s. After declaring independence from Serbia in 2008, the country’s future has begun to look somewhat brighter and its population of just under two million are, at last, beginning to enjoy a more peaceful life.
