This tiny principality is surrounded by Austria and Switzerland. It has a population of just 35,000 (that’s right, thirty-five thousand!) who cram into the 62 square miles (160 km2). It is in the Upper Rhine Valley; the language spoken is German and the Swiss franc is the national currency. Liechtenstein has more registered companies than citizens and has developed a prosperous, highly industrialized economy with a huge financial service sector. Most of its income is derived from business taxes although it is a large producer of ceramics along with such diverse products as sausage casings and false teeth!
