Iowa is in the American Heartland, the Midwest region of the US. Once a thriving area of agriculture and ‘Food Capital of the World’, its economy is now much more diverse. Des Moines, the capital city, is a major centre for insurance and financial services.
Iowa is known for its extremes of climate including snowy winters (-18C), hot, humid summers (100C+) and many deadly tornadoes.
