Beautiful, historic Charleston is the capital of West Virginia which is in the eastern part of the USA. It is considered the southern-most northern state or the northern-most southern state, depending on how you look at it.
Downtown Charleston is popular with visitors for its history and architecture and our Charleston Webcams show many locations. Charleston has snowy winters, a cool spring and hot, muggy summers. The state offers great recreational opportunities including skiing, whitewater rafting, fishing, hiking, mountain biking and hunting in its many forested areas. It is home to the West Virginia Air National Guard.
Logging and coal mining were its historic industries and with little modern industry it has one of the lowest per capita incomes in the US.
