It is the most arid state and covers much of the Mojave Desert. Nevada’s nickname is ‘Silver State’ and fortunes were made during the 19th century from the silver which was mined around Carson City, the state’s capital. Reno, the second city is known for its easy marriage and divorce laws and its legalized brothels. The Hoover Dam is a huge concrete dam on the Colorado River and was a great feat of engineering.
