Lying just off the Normandy coast of France, yet British Crown Dependencies, the Channel Islands consist of Jersey, Guernsey, Alderney, Sark and several smaller islands. Easily reached by air or sea, their charming rural lifestyle and tax-free shopping have great appeal. The largest town is St Helier on Jersey with a population of 28,000.
Apart from the beaches, the main attractions are the Jersey War Tunnels, the Underground Hospital and Jersey Zoo. Tourists divide their time between ambling along the traffic-free green lanes and enjoying excellent fresh seafood and ales at the local inns. The capital of Guernsey is St Peter Port, a busy harbour town with beautiful architecture.
For such a small area, there are plenty of Channel Islands webcams showing the local scenery.
