The Republic of San Marino is completely surrounded by Italy. This remote and inaccessible enclave has been a refuge for many over its long history. Its highest point in Monte Titano, 749m (2457 feet) above sea level. Although San Marino is not a member of the EU, it uses the euro as its currency. The 30,000 population speak mainly Italian.
