Oklahoma in Choctaw Indian language means ‘Red people’ and the capital city is Oklahoma City. Our Oklahoma webcam shows the beautiful area around Lake Texoma, although there are many other beautiful areas to enjoy in this south central state. It is nicknamed the ‘Sooner State’ after the settlers who tried to enter the territory early to lay claim to the land in the late 19th century. This is also the name of the University Football Team.
The prairie area was a historic route for cattle drives and American bison still inhabit the area. It is also part of the ‘Bible Belt’ where evangelical Christianity is widely practiced. Known for its pecans, Okmulgee holds the world record for the largest pecan pie, pecan cookie, pecan brownie and the biggest ice cream and cookie party.
