Nunavut is Canada’s newest and largest federal territory. It covers almost 2 million square kilometres yet it has just 31,500 hardy residents. Perhaps it is the arctic climate and high cost of living which deters settlers. Most of the territory’s income is derived from the mining of gold, diamonds, lead and zinc. Tourists can enjoy whale watching, spotting polar bears and caribou and seeing the huge bird sanctuaries.

Nunavut licence plates are particularly collectible as they are bear-shaped, blue on white. Stars from this frozen territory include Susan Aglukark, an Inuit singer and song writer and Jordin John Kudluk Tootoo, a professional ice hockey player with the Nashville Predators.
