Merseyside is the northwest area around the river Mersey and includes Liverpool, Southport, Birkenhead and St Helens. Liverpool has long been a major shipping port with the magnificent buildings known as the Three Graces overlooking the docks. Home of the Beatles Museum, Liverpool has two great racecourses, shopping, nightlife and two well-known football teams.
